Analytical tools have become acceptable means of predicting building performance within the major sets of standards and rating systems concerning sustainable design. The purpose of these tools is to provide the right people with the right information in order to influence decision making where and when it is most effective. In order to alter the building’s geometry to create a more efficient use of energy, the designer must be able to compare the effect of different forms of the building quickly and efficiently. In the era of analysis, it is all about comparison, first in making the systems more efficient and then in comparing those numbers with required building codes or voluntary certification such as ECBC, ASHRAE, ISHRAE, etc. Currently there are many analytical tools with different levels of complexity and response to different variables. The session will demonstrate the various analytical tools to estimate building performance and applications. |
