An International Conference on Building Energy Efficiency

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of the Government of India and Deutsche GesellschaftfürInternationaleZusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the Indo German Technical Cooperation, have jointly agreed to promote the “Indo-German Energy Programme” (IGEN) with the aim to promote Buildings Energy Efficiency, which is aligned with the commitments made by the Government of India to meet its objectives submitted under NDCs. In this respect, BEE and GIZ are pleased to announce ANGAN (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New - habitat), an international buildings Energy Efficiency Conference that will take place at The LaLiT, New Delhi from 9th to 11th September, 2019.

 

The International Conference shall serve as a platform to deliberate on interdependence between organizations, systemic sustainability management, and feedback loops for better resource efficiency.  Eminent speakers and dignitaries around the world will gather to debate, discuss and deliberate on the aspects of sustainability in the context of inclusiveness, international cooperation and education.

To foster strategic national and international partnerships, networks and information exchange to promote adoption of energy efficient habitat through collaborative actions.

 

Objectives

    1. To ensure a holistic ecosystem of market drivers, policy imperatives, financial instruments, implementation strategies and technology aptitude which ensures a sustainable means of achieving energy efficiency and lowering the environmental impacts in construction and operation of buildings.
    2. To exhibit the wide array of work undertaken in India by all levels of the Indian government, research organizations, academia, implementation agencies, private developers and the construction industry with regards to ensuring energy efficiency in buildings.
    3. To build capacity among policy makers at all levels of government and the organizations that supports them, by equipping them with greater knowledge and skills, to develop and implement energy efficiency initiatives in the buildings sector.
    4. To foster knowledge exchange and strengthening of technical and policy research in the field of building energy efficiency.
    5. To provide a platform for various stakeholders from the demand and supply side of the building and construction industry to connect with each other.
    6. To instill in the market a sense of responsibility and awareness regarding the impacts of high energy consumption in buildings and highlight the requisite mitigatory and adaptive actions.
    7. To exhibit the traditional and indigenous values and practices of sustainable construction throughout Indian history in order to provide feasible solutions for the current need of sustainable development.


About BEE

The Government of India set up the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on 1st of March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. The mission of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency is to assist in developing policies and strategies with a thrust on self-regulation and market principles, within the overall framework of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 with the primary objective of reducing energy intensity of the Indian economy. 

BEE co-ordinates with designated consumers, designated agencies and other organizations and recognize, identify and utilize the existing resources and infrastructure, in performing its functions. The Energy Conservation Act provides for regulatory and promotional functions.


About GIZ

The  Deutsche  GesellschaftfürInternationaleZusammenarbeit  (GIZ)  GmbH  is  an International   Cooperation   Enterprise   for   sustainable   development   which   operates worldwide,  on  a  public  benefit  basis.  GIZ is fully owned by the German Federal Government and implements development programs in partner countries on its behalf in order to achieve the German development policy objectives.The Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal Republic of India have, under the IndoGerman Technical Cooperation, agreed to jointly promote the “Indo-German Energy Programme” (IGEN) with the aim to promote energy efficiency/conservation in energy consumption    so    to    use    energy    more    efficiently    and    in    turn    improve    the environment/climate protection.  In  the  forefront  of  GIZ  and  the  Bureau  of  Energy Efficiency  (BEE)  working together  for  the  current  policy  environment  is  beginning  to promote energy efficiency and the execution of national and state level programs will be the key determinants of its success. India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change (2008) points to building efficiency measures as essential to carbon emission reduction.
